There are certain events in sailing that are taking place despite the cold weather conditions. Gasparilla 2017 was one such event that started and it has ended with smooth sailing results. Held in Tampa this was a pirate like an event that was made for the young at heart, being a pirate parade which is unique to this city.
This year Tampa has been colder and many have braved the cold to watch the ships and their fellow mates on the boats. The pirate parade is complete with arrests as well as invasions. There were officers keeping a close eye for any sign of unrest that might erupt. Hence, the parade route was closely monitored as the traditional parade was carried out.
For those who are not aware of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival, or the Sailing options, it is a parade that is hosted annually along with sailing events. It happens every year and started off from 1904. The event is organized by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. The event is a celebration of the legend that surrounds Jose Gaspar, who was a mythical pirate of Spain and he operated in the waters of southwest Florida around the early part of the nineteenth century.
In 2015 the hundredth edition of the event was held. Besides decorating pirate like vessels that throng the bay area, there are different events held around this time. There are a children’s parade as well as arts, music and film festivals held. There is a Knight Parade organized as well in Ybor City with crowds thronging the roads to see the parades and events.
